Description
They Knew Their God, Volume 1 is the first in a six volume series of short biographies of men and women whose lives were outstanding because of their close walk with God. The title, “They Knew Their God,” was chosen because it embraces the various steps in the spiritual life—the introduction to God via the New Birth, the receiving of the fullness of the Holy Spirit, and the further “journey into God,” which progressively reveals His character.
Characters from both sexes have been included, and these were from varying nationalities, from successive eras of time, and from differing church backgrounds.
God never repeats Himself in human experience, and it is refreshing to note that these saints, in venturing their all upon God, have left us individual histories which enrich the spiritual kingdom by that same delightful variety we discover in all God’s “other” creations. These sketches have not been written with the intention that the reader should imitate these saints in every detail, but rather that the faith and courage of these saints in proving and knowing God might encourage us to realize there is no limit, except in ourselves, to what we might discover of His kingdom while here in “time.”
Daniel tells us that “the people that do know their God shall be strong and do exploits” (Dan. 11:32). In this shallow, religious age may the example of these men and women, who removed all barriers and boundaries to their search after and exploration of their own God in His length, breadth, depth and height, beckon us on to a similar, unlimited grasp of the Unseen.
