Praying Is Working by G. H. Lang

A gem of a little book, arguing for prayer's place as a believer's first work. The author quotes William C. Burns, who wrote, “The great fundamental error, as far as I can see, in the economy of the Christian life, which many, and alas! I for one, commit, is that of having too few and too short periods of solemn retirement with our gracious Father and his adorable Son Jesus Christ.” Amen, and amen. I apply this to myself, too long caught up in temporal affairs and not the heavenly.

Near the end of the tract Mr. Lang writes,

“But who are they for whom He can so wondrously prevail? They are described as those who ‘draw near unto God through Him’–that is, to praying saints who use His all-powerful name. The parties to the case must appear in court with their advocate, or they largely tie his hands. Christ’s high priesthood is in order that we may resort unto God, not to render it immaterial whether we pray or not.”

A more practical Christian booklet I cannot imagine. Mr. Lang would have each and every one of his Christian brethren to set more “court dates!”
